Yes, it can be mounted outside. In my new house, I have it mounted outside on the side.
Sadly, we had to return it.
Due to the fact that I replaced the exact unit, I cannot compare it to the previous one.

We are not pleased with it. The product shown is different from the one shown here. There is only an indoor version of this. It is designed to be used outdoors. Since I cannot replace the image that was actually shown, I am frustrated. There is a chance that this will work, but it will take a lot of work. I plan to see if this will work as I need or just replace what I want In the picture, that is what is shown.
I was able to replace the old unit without any difficulty. Last one lasted 14 years, and is still the same model as this one.
The product does what it says.
The product shown in the picture did not arrive.
