I'm returning it for a replacement because it's missing two key components: a pin that keeps the chain attached to the hook and a roll pin that keeps the pin in place. Without those two key components, the hook is useless. I'm hoping the two key components are included with the replacement, but the hooks look good. Update; br>br> I was able to obtain a replacement hook that included both the main pin that connects the hook to the chain and the roll pin that keeps the main pin in place, and the hook is now usable. I've read that other people have experienced the same problem, and it causes inconvenience and delays.
This is an excellent heavy-duty hook. Because the latch on the old hook on my engine hoist (cherry picker) was mangled, I used it to replace it. I'm glad I took the chance! This hook has a much better latch, and the overall size, opening width, and general heft of this hook are ideal for this application. br>In the packaging with this hook, the pin and the retaining roll pin were in their own small bag. A heavy-duty clear plastic bag was used to seal everything. There are no problems. It went together without a hitch, and I expect it to last for many years of heavy use.
They're big and strong, with plenty of room for my Curt gooseneck bed mount tie downs. This is why I chose this brand: the paint is nice and the hardware is stainless, so I expect them to last longer than the stock ones. The roll pin that needs to be pressed in place for the pin that holds the chain to the hook was the only issue I didn't know about before I bought it. I finally went out and bought 1/8" cotter pins after failing miserably at getting that pin to start. That was the size of the hold before it was expanded. For the roll pins, a hole was drilled.
I'd be delighted to provide an update on this dreadful situation. The black pin that connects the hook to the chain, as seen in the photo, is missing. This is the fourth one I bought. The importance of the black pin cannot be overstated. They're completely ineffective without it. If they can send me the pins to finish the order, I'll gladly update this terrible review.
Another Chinese pos, but this one is well-made and hasn't yet broken.
