I'm curious about the cable's length. ?

This does not come with a cable. There are only 100 crimping sleeves available.

What exactly is the opening's diameter?

What does it mean to be "exact"? I'm not capable of measuring to the nanometer level. The sleeve opening is slightly larger than the cable; for example, if the cable is 1/16" OD, the sleeve is approximately 5/64" ID; if the galvanizing adds dimension, the loop is approximately 3/32" ID. The cable fits loosely but not sloppily in the sleeve. The cable slides into the sleeve with ease. Because those aren't "exact" terms, they might not be able to respond to your query.

Is crimping these going to require a special tool?

A pair of pliers is the only special tool you'll need. It makes no difference which type you have. Also, crimp them tightly enough to prevent them from sliding around. They're a little flimsy. Instead of crimping them directly in the middle, I crimped them closer to the edge because it was easier to smash.

Is it possible to crimp with regular pliers?

They will, in fact. I have a set of miniature vice grips that make crimping a breeze.

The Best Hanging Item Strategy Swedging is the best and, in my opinion, the only way to hang things

It's simple to hang shelves and other objects with sleeves, wire rope, and a swedging tool. Swedging is definitely a better option than using wire rope clamp devices, which are difficult to dismantle.

Crimped edges held up well with little effort

These were simple to crimp (soft aluminum) and held the steel cable securely. Before attempting to insert the cable/wire rope, use a good cutter to get a nice clean edge on it, and keep an eye out for wire rope splinters, as with any crimped fitting.
