I've never smelled anything coming from ours, which is currently being used to store dog food. This seal appears to be quite good.

Is this something that you can stack?

Yes, they can be stacked. They are used to make dog food. Screw lids, for example. It's a little pricey, but for my purposes, it's well worth it.
