This has been helpful in cleaning reel to reel tape heads as well as helical-cut blades Heads of the DAT machine are scanned. Its super soft surface prevents damage to helical scan heads, and its flat surface also makes it easier to clean. Since they are durable enough, once I have cleaned the heads, I recycle the brushes for less delicate electronics cleaning. It is a little more expensive but it is well.
Please be aware If a cotton swab is used on a video head, it is likely to contaminate, damage, and even permanently damage it. You can use these chamois for a variety of purposes Try using alcohol-based swabs, or you might be able to use a clean, unprinted piece of printer paper folded over a few times and soaked in video head cleaner in a pinch.
To clean tape heads lint-free, I have been using 91% alcohol to clean them. Seeing particles come off of them caught my attention. It amazed me how much of the chamois came off with the blue masking tape when I cleaned the loose particles from one before using it. We purchased them new and began using them right away. Those people won't get close to my tape heads, needless to say!.

These products are great for cleaning old VCRs and other types of machines. Using these rather than regular washing is much less likely to damage your decks so long as you know what you're doing. The VCR heads on my machines are delicate and don't grow on trees, so I trust these to clean my VCR heads.
