Food, electronics, and valuables are all affected by humidity. I live in a humid climate, so when I'm not using something, I try to keep it completely dry. Foodstuffs such as rice, beans, and pasta, as well as jewelry and guns and ammunition. I store them in ziplock bags, Tupperware containers, or both, along with a few desiccant sacks, and I've never had to deal with spoiled food, tarnished jewelry, or rusted guns and bullets. I've been doing it for a long time and it's a great workout.
These silica packs are packaged in a heavy-duty ziploc bag, which is then sealed inside another plastic bag to keep them from absorbing moisture before you need them. These haven't given me any problems, and I'm a big fan of the rest of the wisedry line. They perform admirably and provide excellent value for money.
All . All of your important documents are kept in a safe. Mildew-like odor began to develop. The smell was gone after I threw some of these in there. Awesome. One went into my salt shaker as well. There must be other uses for the clumpy salt. And you can count on me to track them down.
These are extremely effective. We mostly use them in salad greens boxes, where the packets significantly extend the food's shelf life. I piled all 100-packets on top of each other once the packets were saturated. So I placed them on a plate and microwaved them for three minutes. I put them in for another 2 minutes because only a few of them had returned to orange. It was an excessive amount of information - Many of the packages melted, became entangled, and shattered. Dry on the lowest setting in a dehydrator or in the oven.
These are ideal for my homemade jerky that is packaged.
Because my car is drafty, I've been using them to keep the inside of my windshield from freezing up. I put them in a sunglasses holder, and there has been no moisture inside.
These were purchased in the hopes of preventing clumping of my spices. I put a silicon package in a few of my spices, like garlic powder, and I'm hoping it works.
I used them in my kitchen's food and spice cabinets, and they turned green in one day, indicating that they need to be replaced. On the second day, the same thing happened. I live in a dry area of Southern California. In fact, there hasn't been any rain in months, and the area is experiencing a drought. Replacing them on a daily basis is inconvenient and costly, so they are not recommended.
