Traps usually have tread on the exit side, but does this one?

I believe that this is a radiator trap that is meant to be threaded into a 1/2" NPT outlet.

The Hoffman 17c can this unit be directly replaced?

I have no more pictures of the Hoffman 17C's, but I have two pictures of the Hoffman 17C's long and short tailpieces. There is no need to buy a new 17C short tailpiece model to replace this one. In the case of the hoffman tailpiece, Barnes & Noble would provide you with a special tailpiece There is a 1-inch increase in Jones. A cage unit could also be repaired on your hoffman if you want to get the same performance as a new trap, but with much less effort. In order to install this part, you'll need part number 3500 & Describe (cover) 3500C

Is there tread on the exit end of this part?

Certainly, there are 1/2" NPT threads on it.
