It makes sense to me why they are made that way, so that when you fill it to the top you can remove the lid to the measurement that was on the bottom and know how much you put in. It is far better to measure the amount after it has been poured. This allows for the ultimate in control over the measurement.

I found mine to be very easy to use, and it came with a cleaning brush. I prefer to provide the numbers starting at the bottom, since it takes some practice to get a good full draw.
