The filter is made of fritted glass. There is no need for paper with this method. It's more convenient to use, but it's more difficult to keep clean. The ease of use, in my opinion, outweighs the issue of cleaning.

I didn't give it five stars because the first item was broken when it arrived, but it was replaced the next day. However, both of the items were not exactly as described and were missing the stonylab logo. I contacted the manufacturer, who informed me that this is the only item in the line that does not have the logo, which is strange given that the image depicts the item with the logo. In any case, the item is extremely thick and well-made, especially considering the price.
The only reason I gave it three stars is because I couldn't find a paper filter that fit. Apart from that, everything was fine.
Overall, it's of good quality, but there was a lot of debris in it that needed to be cleaned before use. There were some glass shards and a lot of what appeared to be cardboard fibers. Washing it out took me about an hour.
I'd give it a 0 star rating if I could, because it's a terrible product that broke under vacuum the first time I used it.
The glass on this Büchner funnel is thick, making it one of the best I've ever used. Withstood is a word that is used to describe a situation that has been successfully 109f.
The design is nice and it works well.
