This hand protector is a huge step up from the knitted insulated gloves I used to make agarose gels with. Because silicone is impervious to steam, it serves as a good scald-resistant barrier. The small nubs also provide significantly more grip than our old insulated gloves, as well as providing additional airspace between the hot object and the protector's inside grip. Overall, it's a significant upgrade over our previous PPE. br>br>I got the green one and used a marker pen to draw cartoon eyes on it, so it looks like a little green monster whenever I hold something with it. It's a big hit with the students.
I used this product in another chemistry lab in college, where it was provided for me. Because I didn't need it for my organic chemistry lab, I had to return the one I brought this semester. However, anyone taking an undergraduate chemistry lab that requires boiling flasks or beakers and does not have one should consider purchasing this product.
It's a useful item, but it's best used with real small beakers! If the capacity is greater than 500ml, I recommend purchasing a second one to use as a pair.
