Your bucket will determine the size of the bottom shelf, which is 18" by 18".

Is it big enough to hold a brute trash can, if so, how many gallons does it hold?

No, this storage bin can hold a mop bucket. It has a trash liner as well.

Is there a zipper on a yellow bag for taking the trash out, or will you have to lift it up and take it out?

It is not possible to zip up the yellow bag

Although it states that it can be folded down, one answer here (to the dimensions question) appears to contradict that claim. Are you able to fold it ?

The bag holder cannot be folded flat. If you remove the bag, you must fold the bag holder back up.

There is enough strength in the front bottom platform to carry a vacuum cleaner

The assembly part is super easy for me. On the front platform, it is strong enough to hold a vacuum. When in storage, I would recommend that you do not leave the vacuum on it. I found it to be very good value for money. I like the bag because it is strong and good. You can lift up the handle to store it.
