Soapy water does not detect leaks as well as this device. I agree with you that soapy water can detect leaks, but I must say that this product will find leaks that soapy water can't. I had to use a magnifying glass to see the escaping bubbles since the leak was so small. Despite that, the leak was quite small to the point where one of my tires would have lost a substantial amount of air. I bought this stuff because it's not cheap, but it's effective. The residue left behind is sticky

There is a thick sticky residue that remains after this, which is not enough to detect leaks. As a result, if you are using it to test leaks on a gas tank regulator, etc. , you will see that it gets pretty goopy after some time. To avoid residuals, I am going back to using Swagelok's SNOOP which is more expensive but does not leave any apparent residue, nor is it mildly toxic like this.
