I purchased this in 2007 and wrote a review sometime in 2008-2009. I wrote back in 2009 about how much I adored this garbage can. We've been using the same one for the past 12 years and have only had to replace the batteries a few times. My kids were messing around the other day and slammed the lid shut, breaking the gear. That's the only reason I'm getting a new one today. I just hope my new one lasts as long as my old one did (who knows how much longer it could have lasted if it hadn't been busted by my kids)!
I just bought one, and there is no way to "lock" it so that your dogs can't get in. The only option is to turn off the power, but they can still get into it, particularly if it is knocked over. Simply remove the lid.
In the year 2020, I purchased two of these trash cans, one of which included an adapter. Both of them are extremely useful. The adapter is simply plugged into the can and into an electrical outlet on the other end. I adore them both.
Yes, it's made of a tough black plastic. It's quite impressive for a trash can. I mean, it's as cool as garbage gets.

This was purchased to be used as a diaper bin, and it has proven to be a true blessing. Even when it's completely full, we only get a whiff of the stench for the brief time the lid is open. Otherwise, you'd have no idea what horrors awaited you on the inside! Since I bought it, it has been running on the same batteries. The removable bag ring is fantastic, and the bags are easy to replace. The bag is secure and fully concealed with the top back on. I'm not sure how much the charcoal filter helps, but the main issue I had was odor when the can was closed, and it worked perfectly for that! As an added bonus, the unit appears to be in excellent condition. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> For the past six months or so, I've been using this on a daily basis, and it's been a workhorse! It's still running on the same batteries I bought when I first got it, and it's still effectively blocking diaper odor! br>br>Recent changes: br>br> So, after working flawlessly since November, the lid abruptly and completely gave up on me a few weeks ago! I assumed the batteries had finally died, so I replaced them with new ones, but nothing changed. There was no light, no motion, nothing. I was on the verge of dismissing it, but I decided to give customer service a shot. I emailed them a screenshot of my original order as well as a detailed description of the issue. I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email within 24 hours with an incident number and instructions to call in for service. I expected them to ask me to send in the lid, but they surprised me by telling me that their policy had changed and all I had to do was pay a $9 fee. A new lid would be sent out for a $95 service/shipping and handling fee. They were adamant about not getting the old one back. I didn't mind paying the fee because it would have been more expensive to simply ship the original lid in. I got my brand new lid about a week later! I can't speak highly enough of itouchless' excellent customer service. It was all very straightforward, so I'm giving it a five-star rating! br>br>Please let us know if you found this review useful. It holds a lot of garbage in a stylish trashcan! I've been putting off writing this review for nearly a year because I wanted to make sure this product would last. lasting. In our beach house, we have a teeny-tiny kitchen and a teeny-tiny, oddly shaped trash can. I spent an inordinate amount of time researching (ask my husband) before deciding on this one. It looks great in the room and far exceeds my expectations. It's stylish and holds a lot of trash in an unobtrusive manner. It appeals to me.
These cans have only been in my possession for about a month, but they are fantastic! They can accommodate a lot of garbage. I used to have to dispose of trash on a daily basis. Two days' worth of garbage is held in these trash cans. On Amazon, I bought the stickers separately.
It was difficult to find a stainless steel trash can for an affordable price at the time, so the fact that this was the most affordable and had the automated lid seemed like a pretty easy choice; it still looks and functions well. br>br>You can open the lid by waving your hand over the sensor, or you can use the button on the front to open and close it. While closed, the lid does an excellent job of keeping any odors in. To be honest, I've never attempted to replace the carbon filters in it in order to use the advertised 'deodorizer,' and given the current price, I wouldn't. br>br>According to some reviews, the cord isn't included. There is no AC adapter, and the review specifically states that it is battery powered. The batteries are supposed to last up to a year, but I've found that they last much longer for us, and we use it on a regular basis. br>br>The bags used are standard kitchen bags. Inside the bag, there is a plastic ring that tucks the top of the bag in, preventing the bag from hanging over the edges. Even if you put very heavy items in the garbage, it does a fantastic job of keeping the bag in place.
I waited to see if it worked before reviewing it. I finally gave in and ordered this after weeks of using a cheap plastic can with a lid that wouldn't stay shut. It works. It opens by simply holding whatever is thrown over it. When you're finished, it also closes! User error is to blame for the negative reviews about the bags slipping in. Read the instructions carefully and use the ring to secure the bags. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> I haven't had to replace the batteries yet, and it's been about 5 months! And I do a lot of opening and closing with this can! This purchase has made me very happy.
It's an adaptor that isn't even turning on! br>I'm incredibly dissatisfied! br>br>Update (1 week later)br>I contacted customer service, who responded quickly and promptly sent me a new lid with adaptor, which is now operational. br>Both the customer service and the trash can have made a positive impression on me.
This is a terrible design. Because the batteries and deodorizer are not in the lid, but rather below the trash level, they end up in your trash. When you toss wet trash in, it hits these, and your lid will always be filthy and contaminated with bacteria. I've never seen a trash can with a part that sits inside the trash. br>Each time you take out the trash, be prepared to clean the lid. It's pretty revolting. br>I would not purchase this product again!.
I purchased two of them. One is for garbage, and the other is for recyclables. The squarer shape appeals to me, and I can fit both in my kitchen side by side. Because it is so conveniently located, it has made it much easier for my family to recycle. (They are, in fact, slothful. ) ) In our house, the step cans were never used - Because the automatic lids are always breaking, they're fantastic! The plug is convenient, but I don't have access to an outlet near the cans, so I rely on batteries.
