The caulking tubes stay fresh for MONTHS when left open. br>I bought a pair of these a few years ago at one of the big box stores, but I've never been able to locate them. I was overjoyed when I discovered them on Amazon. br>For some reason, ordering two packs of two is less expensive than ordering one pack of four. In terms of packaging, it appears to be a waste.
I was hesitant to purchase these because they appeared to be a bit pricey, which they are. They're capitalizing on a brilliant concept. After all, it's just a piece of plastic, albeit one that is well designed. They do, however, an excellent job of sealing a caulk tip and do it now, rather than getting down from the ladder, finding some packaging tape, and carefully sealing it with two applications of the tape. It's a great time saver and money saver for professionals who don't use the entire tube of caulk, especially if the caulk is expensive. It's fantastic for a homeowner who does all of his own work. I'm painting my house and don't want to do it all over again, so I'm using the best caulk I can find, which is also expensive; no more tape or wire nuts (which don't work anyway). Aside from the fact that it's a little messy to remove from an open tube, this is a fantastic product.
Make your own out of wax, aluminum foil, or whatever else you have on hand. These become clogged after only a few uses and feel like a waste if you intend to use them multiple times. They are not something I would buy again.
So far, these are the most effective caulk tips I've come across. I bought them a few years ago and enjoyed using them right away. People have lent them to me or I've misplaced them over time. I discovered the card in the original package and went to Amazon to see what I could find. These were a pleasant surprise when I discovered them here. PermaSeal's patent must have been purchased by Homax, I believe. In any case, they're fantastic. The only thing a user needs to remember is to cut the caulking tube tip far enough back so that the integral center rod in the cap fits into the hole while the cap still fits snugly over the tip of the caulking tube. This design appeals to me because it uses a single device to seal both the inside and outside of the caulking tip.
Over the years, I've experimented with a variety of caulk tube plugs. This is the best of all of them. 2 packs are recommended. You're bound to lose one at some point. or your friends take what you have and never return it. I wish it was bright orange rather than black so that I could see it. I strongly advise you to.
Unlike the one I have from the big box store, this one has a stem in the middle that slides into the caulk tube to keep air out. It also has a tighter, more tapered fit to the tubes.
This one is effective in preventing the caulk from drying out. The only problem is that the hole you cut on the tip needs to be big enough for the center piece to fit inside the caulk tube. I've thrown away a lot of half-used caulk tubes, but this one solves the issue.
These are much more appealing to me than the longer, screwed-on versions. in types.
