These are referred to as "over temperature and over pressure relief valves," or "T" for short. P valve". A temperature sensor is represented by the white rod. A metal rod on the inside expands at a faster rate than the white tube on the outside. When the water heater overheats, the central rod expands more than the outside white tube, pushing on the valve's seat and releasing the retaining spring, allowing the valve to open. The water pressure will overcome the retaining spring and open the valve if the pressure becomes too high.
Three things on the new valve should be looked for and matched; Pressure rating in pounds per square inch (PSI), pipe thread pitch, and temperature (less important, but still worth noting). br>This valve is a type of valve that is used to control the flow of water. Maximum Temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit) F): 210 psi maximum pressure setting 150br>Just in case you had the wrong pressure on the previous valve, you'll want to match the specifications on the water heater's information plate. It will most likely say something along the lines of:br>Maximum pressure: Working Pressure: 300 PSIbr> 150 PSI - which means you want it to match the 150 PSIbr>Temp is important, but if you can't find the specs on the water heater, it's probably fine to use the previous valve's settings. br>This valve is pretty standard, and it should fit most regular water heaters in the US (at least, my last water heater and my current one, if I recall correctly, both have the same size pipe thread). br>If you're not sure and want to be sure, you can probably just remove the old valve (after watching a how-to video on YouTube). to video) and bring it to a hardware store or a plumbing shop. Alternatively, you can look up the model of water heater you have on the internet and find out most of the information you need.
It was perfect for my Richmond. This is a fairly standard component.
Yes, because this is affected by pressure and/or temperature.

When I sold my house, the buyers demanded a home inspection, which they were entitled to. Despite the fact that the drip pan beneath the pressure relief pipe was completely dry, the inspector decided to pull the lever on the pressure relief valve, which was working perfectly. It began to leak almost immediately, albeit gradually. I placed an order for a new pressure relief valve, and when it arrived, I set the water heater's temperature to vacation, shut the cold water inlet valve, and drained about 6 gallons from the tank. The old PRV was removed after the drip pipe was removed and the old PRV was slowly turned until no steam or liquid water was leaking. The new PRV was installed right away, and the drip pipe was replaced as well. The water heater fired up and showed no signs of leaks after the water was turned back on and the dial set to a warm temperature. When the buyer's agent asked to go into the basement to check on the water heater just before closing, I was convinced it was the inspector's fault. If you're new to plumbing, I'd recommend turning off the water heater completely and letting the water cool down.
I'm a retired plumber who recently had to replace the Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve in my own water heater. This is by far the best one I've ever had to replace, and I've had to replace a lot of them. It's ready to use right out of the box, with no dope or tape required for installation. In addition, the price is excellent.
After four years, the original valve broke down. When draining the water heater, I manually open it to serve as a vent and allow the water to drain quickly. I drained it the last time I did it, and it wasn't venting anymore; The water drained out slowly. The valve had to be removed with penetrating oil, care, and patience when the original was removed. The new one is a perfect match, with thread sealant already applied. It's quite effective.
The quality of the valves appears to be the same as that of the others. The delivery was lightning fast. It was easy to swap it out. I purchased this after my 5-year-old valve started to leak. I received a quote from a plumber for $165 to replace it. It cost me less than $20 and took me about 30 minutes (including the time it took to let the water partially drain from the tank). I'm hoping this part lasts until it's time to replace the tank. It's very simple.
This resulted in a crusty deposit around the drain hole, which could obstruct safety functions if the valve is stuck. So I swapped it out for this valve, which worked perfectly. Because of the corrosion, removing the old valve proved difficult. To avoid breaking the copper pipes, I had to use a lot of penetrants to loosen the binding. It was simple to install with a few teflon tapes, and tightening it snugly prevented any leaks. I even put the valve through its paces to see if it could release any pressure, and it passed with flying colors.
A used camper was purchased. When the water heater's relief valve was turned on, the water would pour out like a waterfall. Rather than paying nearly three times as much for one from the heater manufacturer, I decided to take a chance on this one based on other reviews. Exactly the same specifications apply. It was easy to install, and it's nice to know that we can now leave the heater on while we're camping.
I was suffering from a T. I priced replacements locally at hardware stores and plumbing supply houses, figuring they must think they're made of gold or something because the P valve on my water heater has been leaking for a while. This one was a smidgeon cheaper on Amazon.
This was the exact same model as the water heater that came with the house. It was simple to take out the old one (which was leaking) and replace it with this one. It should last for the rest of the water heater's life. It helped me save a few hundred dollars over the cost of hiring a plumber. CAUTION: If you've never worked with hot water plumbing before, pay close attention to the instructions to avoid injury or damage.
