Threads and Barbs are the only ones that are one. 1/4. 1/2 x 1- 1/4 couplings and 1-inch couplings can be used interchangeably. Couplings that are 1/2 the size of the standard couplings. The ends of the coupling and the adapter are both one. Only the threads and barbs are one size; the rest is half size. 1/4.

3/4 appears to be the smallest coupler banjo makes. So the barb is half an inch long. For a while, it threw me for a loop.
