I use them on the overflow pipe on my swimming pool to keep water from wasting when I swim, local city ordinance requires one inch above normal water level in one of the skimmers. If you get a few kids, or even adults, jumping in and out of the pool, the splashing water will quickly drain. This plug is useful for plugging 1 1/2 drainage lines, such as those under sinks and washers, so you can work on clearing clogs in the drains without worrying about water messing with them.
thought the concept of this product was great, however I didn't find it appropriate for the item I bought I returned it to the sender.
I have found these plugs to be the finest I have.

The plug seals well in a threaded hole and is sturdy. On a 189 Egret flats boat, I used it to plug drains at the livewells.
I love it.
