There is not enough room to open these for a 3/8" Safety Chain Connector on a trailer hitch

It barely fits a 5/16" safety chain through my trailer safety chain that is 1/4" wide. The snap hook can be seen through the hole. The 5/16" size is what I order. I had seen other 5/16" carabiners that allowed a 3/8" pass, but this one does not Then pass it through the carabineer. Then there is no need to use these. Since the safety chain could not be connected to the trailer hitch rings due to their 3/8" diameters, I had to buy larger connectors.

There are sharp edges around the clasp, which is only a down side. Carabiners of this style or construction usually have these features. There is a little filing required to make sure ropes will not get snagged or cut over time or to make sure children can use it.
