It is true. There are two pieces to the puzzle. I consider this latch to be excellent.

Simply add some 5/32 x 1/2" pop rivets and your rust-free hatch cover is ready to use. This was bought to repair the rear storage hatch on a Yamaha FX Waverunner 2014. The factory one only lasted 2 years, so I had to drill one hole for it to fit, but this one is much more durable. I will be buying another one of these when I replace the next one, which I already did with an OEM one. It will be interesting to see how it holds up under the sun exposure, but it feels almost twice as thick as the original. This is the best hatch cover repair ever. Simply add some 5/32 x 1/2" pop rivets and your rust-free hatch cover is ready to use.
We used these to replace our dry-erase board ATVs that came on my 2015 Polaris Sportsman 570 and ETX both have rotted tires. All the latches on the Polaris cargo boxes that I purchased used come apart after 3 years of being parked in the shade, but the ones on the older back storage boxes that I purchased new last year still function. They are made by Southco and are about 3 years old. This is a 5-year-old girl. In order to make these work I replaced all eight latches on both ATVs. You don't have to It costs $20 for Polaris or $00 for other brands. If you get the best (Southco) for less, it's not worth spending $. 00.
I like how it works.
Replacing the same latch I had with a screw. The upsides are Since it has a low profile and rubber covering, a toe break is less likely. One disadvantage is that the latch has a tendency to slip over the lip of the lid, where it must be manually removed. I don't think it's a big deal, but it's a pain.
