It is currently rated for 60 lbs, but it will hold 40 lbs with a side application (when using ferromagnetic metals that are thick). You shouldn't be able to hold a broom/dustpan in a cabinet, but one should be sufficient for a cabinet.
In the top of the hook, the opening is about 7/8" wide, and in the bottom, the opening is about 1/2" wide. Within the hook itself, it has a depth of about 3/4". Here is what I can think of to help!

Magnets are difficult to remove from surfaces, so grab them by the hook and tip them sideways to remove them. It is possible to scratch the finish/paint on the surface if you slide it to an edge. I would give this a 10/10 rating. The product is excellent and I would purchase it.
