I used it to hold up a chain link fence driveway gate post. Magnets could not latch to separate plates - they only reacted to the post itself (which was responsive enough This is 5 inches in diameter). Alignment is therefore more forgiving this way (e. g. It would be a little odd if the gate shifted a little bit). Although the magnet grabbed a little (barely), I would stick with the 50 lb version the next time around. Placing a second magnet beside the first, with the long sides adjacent, did not help, either in the 0 degree version or in 180 degree version. It must be possible for magnetic fields to be cancelled when placing close to each other. There is a small amount of rust on the exposed magnet edges in the rain, but not much, so far, affecting gate catch operation. My old conventional mechanical gate post grabber stuck all the time and was difficult to operate before I used this magnetic catch.
If you're going to use this for its intended purpose without the metal part, you can't use it because it's not designed for that. A latch or door stop is used to close a door or cabinet.
Magnesium magnets that are quite strong. It is impossible for me to separate them directly if they are flush against each other.
I can easily separate them if I twist or articulate them in some way.
Hi, I was looking at a different set of strength sets and thought these came with the plates, but they are not listed here, so you'll have to make your own. Nothing to worry about.
I found it to be a good fit for.
Nice work.
