My thanks go out to you for asking this For most cases, you will be able to use a 7/16 drill bit. The type and hardness of the wood will determine the time it takes. I would recommend at least a 7/16 and move up to a 29/64 or 15/32 (not the most common size) after that. Thank you for reading. I hope this helps.

The quality is good, but the price is high. Considering I needed only two of them, I found that purchasing the entire set was almost as cheap as buying them separately, assuming you can find them in a local hardware store. Having only 15 minutes to drive to the nearest hardware store, it wasn't worth the trip for me. IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE There is no such thing as a hardware store in a big box store. Their home is a good place to be Stores that sell home improvement products. A member of their staff brought this to my attention when I was searching for an oddity one day. It was kind of confusing to see three employees trying to deal with this issue. There was no understanding of the concept of a shoulder bolt among them. In the end, one of the men said in rather an unpleasant manner, "This is not a hardware store" There is a home improvement store here. That kind of thing is not for sale at our store. This item can easily be ordered on Amazon rather than trying to find it in a local store.
Compared with the galvanized ones I have used over the years, they appear to be real stainless steel, arrived quickly, and are spec'd out the same. Assume they are good, as they show rust over time. If I see rust, I'll update, but if not, assume they are.
The merely average performs as it has been designed to.
