I can only give you an estimate based on my memory because the clavos have already been hammered into the surface. The shaft's diameter (nail portion) is equal to or less than 1/8 of an inch, according to my calculations. I can assure you that driving them into the surface was not a problem for me. The shaft was strong and did not bend when used. I was very pleased with the product, and I hope this information is useful.
They are manufactured in India.
They are extremely durable. They were used on the shutters we finished in May. The color is still there and the grip is still strong. There's also no fading.

I covered the screws that held my stained cedar shutters to the house with these small iron buttons. Each shutter had two shutters at the bottom and two at the top. It creates a very finished look to the shutter when combined with hammered strap hinges and shutter dogs, as well as hiding the silver screw! Win Win! Hint: I tapped a nail hole right next to the screw head to get the clavos to cover the screw head and get it as close to the screw head as possible. I tapped it into the hole created by the nail with a rubber mallet. It perfectly covered the screw, but you have to place it right next to the screw head or it won't cover enough.
The heads are very attractive, and everyone should be pleased with their appearance. br>The heads appear to be welded to a nail by hand. The shanks of the nails aren't always centered or parallel to the head. This makes installing them in straight lines a challenge, as some may end up a 1/16" off the planned location due to the non-standard dimensions mentioned earlier. the quality of being centered br>I set up 12 of them and, after some pre-planning, After drilling, I used a plastic head hammer to carefully hammer them in. Because the last few taps required bending the heads perpendicular to the shaft of the nail, none of the welds broke, as I had feared.
To be honest, I was anticipating a brittle or easily bendable decorative "cap" nail. What I got was a nice-looking nail that could actually be used as a fastener rather than just for decoration. The finish was exactly what I was looking for, and the metal quality was above and beyond my expectations. As with anything, pay attention to the sizes you want to avoid problems; my items matched the indicated measurements, so I'm not worried about that. Definitely recommendable. br>br>.
These complemented my custom-built sliding barn door perfectly! I pre- Before hammering in the nail, I drilled a guide hole and placed a scrap piece of wood over the head. I wanted the door to look like it had been restored from the past. These hand-forged clavos nails completed the look!.
Lowes had a four-pack for $20, so 12 for $13 was a steal. My husband was able to gently tap them into place because they were made of sturdy metal.
The size is close enough to be accurate. Before pounding in, drill a small pilot hole. If you don't have one, you can bend the stem like a cheap nail, but these don't feel cheap. A small pilot hole won't affect the hold, but it will make it easier for the nail to go in. I may purchase them again, but they are not inexpensive. In case you're interested, Hobby Lobby sells a similar set with a spike stem instead of the nail stem. To keep them in place at Hobby Lobby, you'll need to drill a large hole and caulk it.
1" nails were used with 4" wide cedar boards, which was exactly what I needed to finish my cedar shutter project. I just placed an order for 3/4" nails for the smaller box.
This cast iron clavos is a very nice product, and we were able to use them for our gates despite the fact that they didn't even measure 1" in diameter. We needed clavos right away, and these arrived just in time for my contractor to complete the gates the next morning. They were of excellent quality, but not the 1 1/4" that we had anticipated. I placed them next to a ruler and our 1" ones, which we had but were insufficient for the job.
