Will this still work even though the head of the screw is raised and curving?
Screws are normally used for this purpose. Located below the head is a piece of connecting material, and then the cover is screwed onto it. It was a thick mirror and I needed longer screws, so I purchased them at the Used the longer screws that were supplied instead of the shorter ones.
Would I be able to use my own 8mm machine screws on ?

This is not the right fit. There will be no room for a 1/4-inch diameter wheel Machine screw with a flat head of 20 mm.
