It is true. What made the first responder so determined to demonstrate his ignorance is unclear to me. A machine socket, also known as an ic socket, comes in two types dual wipe and round hole. This type of socket has a greater contact area with the leads and better chip retention, so it is the only kind of socket acceptable for military use. Maybe it's just me, but this product doesn't win my heart. Because the pins are too short they won't stand up to breadboarding, and the pins are way too bendable. The pins easily come off. The parts fall The PCB gets soldered into the component, so it should be ok. Aside from the IC being difficult to get into the part, there is also the wires to go through. However, this is the first time I have handled something like this, so it might be that I'm having trouble.
It is easier to bend the pins than anything I have seen in electronics and the pins are thinner than I imagined. There is something wrong with the spacing of this component that prevents it from mounting into a breadboard. The pins on several of them are Even worse, a IC chip will not fit in this adapter. You buy this type of product so you don't have to solder a small static and heat-sensitive chip to a pcb, well, a IC chip cannot be used here. This device does not work at all. It is designed poorly and was thrown together cheaply. There is no harm in presenting the box as it could be used for fishing lures.
In the top review, there were bent and missing pins and I don't understand how that could happen As you can see from the picture, I had a hard case instead of a soft case. As an extra precaution, I checked the whole box before closing it and all of the pins were present and straight. It's been awhile since I've worked on electronic projects, so I figured this set of sockets would be useful. Since I am using sockets, I can reuse the ICs without having to unsolder the many wires that I used to attach them I would quickly switch ICs on the breadboard if they were receiving too much voltage, or lead ICs off of the breadboard. In the near future, I plan to experiment with circuit designs.
It was quite convenient to make custom sizes with the 6 pin and 8 pin ones A pair of ICs fits snugly into each socket. observed that you should avoid overheating the pins as they may deform the socket pin, thus causing the IC pin to stick out in an abnormal manner. Fortunately, this can be avoided very easily by lowering your iron's heat setting.
It would be nice if wider 28 pin sockets were available. Dip 40 sockets are a tiny bit too narrow (which is why an IC installer and pin straightener are required). Several of the contacts in some of the sockets have been misformed (although they still should function). It is important to be careful with these through pins since they are small and flexible.
