That's exactly what I've done with it (sort of). Using a known good patch cord, I took a reading from the device in question, then tested the loss across the fiber span. br>br>So you'll want to start with the first reading. br>If you know what the device's output should be, you can tell if it meets the manufacturer's specifications.

This is a fantastic device. This was purchased for use in my optics lab, where it will be used to fiber couple free space lasers into a fiber. It combines the visible laser source and the power meter into a single device, which is more convenient than switching the fiber between the two. The power meter is not very well calibrated (measured to be 30 off from a calibrated ThorLabs meter), and only goes up to 3mW. It, on the other hand, has excellent low-light sensitivity and can work in as little as 2-lux. 3 nW. I've tested it at 460 nm, 850 nm, and 1450 nm, and it gives you a relative reading at each wavelength. br>br>Overall, this is an excellent device for assisting with fiber coupling. Today I'm going to buy another.

It does the job, but it isn't a particularly effective tool

This and another one were purchased at the same time, and I prefer the latter. This one cost an extra $13, but it has a smaller power range and fewer features. Because the manual is written in poor English, figuring out how to use it is a guessing game. The visual fault locator is not compatible with the SC adapter. And since nothing else works, you'll have to bury the end of your fiber in the hole and hope that something passes through to aid in fiber identification. This meter does not accept standard OTDR adapters. It comes with an SC adapter, but it only works on the power meter side. br>br>Overall, this is not a good set of tools. If you're looking for inexpensive tools that will get the job done, this is it. However, there are cheaper and better options on Amazon, so keep looking.

Do . I'm not sure why it isn't working right now. Is it possible that the connector I'm using is the wrong one? I'm working with sc and using the default. 1490 and 1550 are the numbers I need. When I look for a signal, I get a - 4dB over a 1390-foot span I'm supposed to be getting - at 1550, but I'm not. On my 1490, I have a four and a half and a half. On my 1550, I have a score of 16. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong because there isn't much of a manual with this thing. I'm just going to send it back because either I can't figure it out or it's defective.

I was bracing myself for some really bad English directions. The image on the screen is bright and clear. The casing has a decent amount of durability. I used it to run some fiber tests and had no problems. br>br>The only thing I wish it had were adapters for the light emitting port, as the adapter that came with it is only for the measuring detection port.

The VFL function is fine; my issue with this device is that the instructions are lacking in detail. br>It sort of explains how to zero it, but the buttons that it instructs you to use are missing. br>I contacted uxcell, who advised me to return it to Amazon. br>It's not particularly useful.

This power meter is ideal for small projects that require a quick power reading. It's simple to use and has a large range of wavelengths. Although the screen light is adequate, the viewing angles are limited.

This meter isn't half bad. I had others look at the meter and give it a once-over. It was well received by some, but not by all. Brand f was preferred by those who did not like the meter. It's been more than three months since I got this meter, and they still haven't given me a reason to buy the brand f meters.
