Product Description

There are just so many accelerometers and so little time! That's why we've added high-precision and inexpensive MMA8451 Triple-Axis Accelerometer w/ 14-bit ADC to our accelerometer selection. Motion, tilt and basic orientation can be determined with a digital accelerometer - and the MMA8451 is a great starting point.
With an operating range from +-2g to +-8g, yet easy to use with Arduino and other microcontrollers, this IR sensor is able to make a variety of measurements
An accelerometer is a small device which measures acceleration using a set of accelerometers, and the MMA8451 comes from Freescale, who are (by this point) masters of these. Designed for phones, tablets, smart watches, and more, but will work just as well in your Arduino project. For example, the MMA8451 is the most precise model of the 3 family members, with a built-in
Moreover, the accelerometer is also fitted with tilt measurement capabilities in order to tell you whether a project is being displayed in portrait or landscape orientation, or if it is tilted forward or backward.
Using this sensor as a shared I2C socket will let you connect a lot of sensors to the same In addition to an address selection pin, each I2C bus can have an accelerometer connected simultaneously. It is important to note that this chip requires repeated-start I2C capabilities (in case you plan to port it to another processor).

Questions & Answers

An example of repeated behavior is The I2C support will be started as mentioned in the note "this chip requires repeated programming" Would it be possible to start supporting i2c?

There is a repeating start mechanism in the I2C protocol. The technical details are listed on the I2C website The bus org website is under repeated maintenance The start condition. Any modern microcontroller should be able to do this, including Arduino. The software i2c emulation of a microcontroller won't work. You will not be able to use the microcontroller without proper i2c hardware support.

What is the compatibility of this with Raspberry Pi 3 model B+?

I cannot think of anything that would prevent this from working electrically. This is I2C, which is supported on the Pi. Google is a great way to find a driver, but you'll have to search a little bit

It is designed to make it easy to use the accelerometer
5/5

We can play with libraries to use 12C and such to have you create amazing things faster than ever. By creating breakouts for all the major ICs on the market and by providing libraries to have you connect to them, we make prototyping ideas simple in a weekend. It's not Adafruit's responsibility to ship your order! From their NYC office, it costs about the same price as the parts to ship it to the California office, and it often takes 5 or less working days to ship the part A minimum of 8 business days are required. The fact that some of the parts on Amazon are easy to acquire makes getting a few parts quickly possible! My favorite thing about prime is having it!.

I was sent a unit that has been destroyed by Because I was expecting something from Adafruit, I wasn't expecting it to be damaged
3/5

It seems that half the PCB on the bottom of my unit has been scratched off, leaving metal exposed. This was a piece of garbage sent to me, which someone else returned to me. My personal experience with Adafruit is that they usually deliver great products, but this one is a dump.

This particular product requires soldering. The does not come preassembled. The product requires soldering since it comes with the pins to solder to the device. If you already have a breadboard, use that to your advantage when soldering this product. Displays the hard data via the Arduino platform.

The construction of the website is excellent
5/5

This unit was incredibly well constructed, as I have come to expect from Adafruit products. There are several libraries on line that make it very easy to use, and Adafruit provides examples and documentation.

For beginners who are new to I2C or programming, this is probably the easiest accelerometer to use
5/5

excellent support. I feel it was worth the bit of extra money I spent on this accelerometer over some of the less expensive ones that I could have bought on Amazon or elsewhere Please note It is possible to interface with either 3 or automatically with level shifting. Logic levels of 3 volts or 5 volts - I was very pleased with Adafruit's support including their Please note I had the accelerometer up and running in just a few minutes because it was made so well. In addition to being highly sensitive and accurate, the unit also seems to work very fast.
