The nuts on the threaded barrel are too thick for this application, so it requires a thin panel for mounting. As the threaded barrel is not rotational constrained, when tightening the nuts it keeps turning. The wiper runs smoothly across the barrel, however, it gets hung up at each end. You don't have to worry about it unless you have to take it to the same stop every time. The knob is not parallel to the mounting panel because there is a large clearance between its threaded barrel and the operating shaft.
Despite being a less glamorous product, I still feel it deserves a A variable resistor was needed for some electronic bench testing, so I bought it. The solution worked perfectly.
