This ringer box is an excellent complement to the Automatic Electric 183 Spacemaker. The Automatic Electric 183 Spacemaker was a compact telephone that was manufactured from 1958 to 1983. It was a complete phone except for the lack of a ringer, which was due to a lack of a small enough ringer at the time. They did make an external ringer box for them, but they aren't as common as the phones. This box adds a ringer to an Automatic Electric 183 Spacemaker and has a modular phone in jack, allowing you to plug it in between the wall and an Automatic Electric 183 Spacemaker with a modular line cord. The box can also function without a phone plugged in, allowing you to use it with phones that are either hardwired in or have a four-pin plug on the line cord.
The ringer had to be returned. It wasn't even close to being too loud. The phone rang louder than usual. I'm still on the lookout for a ringer with a lot of volume.
I tried to connect it but it wouldn't turn on.
It sounds like a bell, it's a little pricey, but it works perfectly and I'll keep using it because it has a nice on/off button and a RJ11 pass through.
