Is it possible to use 10 gauge wire in the terminals?

Yes, 12ga is a little sloppy. I did not give a single 10ga piece. I would still say yes if strained for sure, solid.

Could you please explain how the contacts in each position work?

They are used as a sissor lift. The lower control center is turned off, while the upper control center is turned on.

The contacts are opened in the first position. One of the contacts in the second position has been closed. Both contacts are closed in the third position, right?

These were used to repair a faulty switch on a brewery control panel. The price is hard to beat, and these appear to be more durable than the switches they replaced.
