Since they work with a magnetic reed switch, you should be able to use them vertically. While they seem to be sealed enough to withstand water, I am not sure how well they would fare under water.

They are a nice touch to the windows

These window sensors were purchased to replace some old and failing ones. The new sensors are only a little bit larger in diameter than my originals, but I was able to open up the access hole a little for them. I am very pleased with these new sensors.

NO or NC are the companies I work for

There are almost no reed switches made outside of China Since the language translation is problematic, it is impossible to know whether NO/NC refers to with or without the magnet in the write-up. An ohm meter and this switch will permit you to "peek" in and out If you want to connect, make sure that you do so.
