Is it possible to use an rc receiver as a "micro controller," or do I require something else?

It all comes down to how you wire everything together and the capabilities of the r/c receiver. This motor driver simply takes a signal and amplifies it, allowing you to power motors that require more power than the device supplying the signal can provide.

It's being used to power Peltier Modules

I've been using it to drive two Peltiers forward and backwards with an Arduino, and it appears to work well. The use of 5v for the Arduino supply simplifies things by requiring only one power supply.

The Arduino "Stepper" module is not compatible with this board! This driver can still be used with an Arduino (I'm using a Nano), but it is incompatible with the Arduino stepper module "Stepper" from their library, which uses a bipolar stepper

It appears that the coil sequence is incorrect. The stepper trembles a little.
