As long as the workpiece is rotating in the lathe chuck, this boring bar is intended to be used in a lathe tool holder. It seems as though you are referring to a boring head that would be used with a milling machine as this tool will not work outside

To bore a 1, I had to use The hole in 6061 aluminum is 5 inches long and 4 inches deep. In my opinion, it did a superb The leg stick out about 4", but there's very little flex in the leg. I was pleased with the overall outcome of 5".
