With a boring head of 4", I am using the bar. Although it is 12" in length, I tried it on an old aluminum rim and it seemed to work well. In my opinion, it's good for its length, with very little chatter, and I am thinking of getting another one for backup.
The product you've made is great! A welder by trade, I manufacture my own pin bushings and repair excavators and loaders. It is much easier to bore holes for the pins this way.
I am very pleased with the price I paid for this boring bar as it came with 10 While the inserts work beautifully on stainless and mild steel, they don't work as well on aluminum. Do not sand the finish to a smooth surface. I am very happy with my Accusize bar and sleeve for my AXA tool hoist.
A large hole can be bored using this tool. I found it to be very helpful.
