Questions & Answers
It would be impossible to thread this item on a barrel. will cut a 1/2 inch hole in almost any type of metal but is not built to cut the outside of things like bolts, pins, or other protruding surfaces because of the configuration of the cutter. It is not designed to provide smooth internal surfaces when cutting the part. In general, though, it's intended usage is to cut a smooth hole in sheet metal, castings, block steel, aluminum, stainless steel, etc. It does so very well which means that you would find it to be a great tool once you get it out there and use it. You can tell, immediately, that the part that falls out of the cutter when you have finished cutting the hole is quite jagged, and you would not be able to use it in the way you suggested.

The interface was dull when it was first introduced. Not even able to start the whole thing. A lot of annular cutters come in different sizes and I buy them a lot. It was a waste of time to use the Hogen mag drill with oil and a piece of 3/8 mild steel. Some of the cutters made it through without a problem.
This is my first time using one of these types of cutters. I drill a lot of holes with my jet drill press and these things simply can't be beat. I cool the cutters with antifreeze through the center, and they never seem to get too hot. It took less than forty seconds to drill a 3-inch hole through a 1/2 inch AR50 plate.
Mag drill bits will not cut through steel thereby defeating the purpose of mag drill bits. A single cut is made before it becomes dull after about 1/8". The quality of what you buy is determined by the price you pay.
Incorporate an adapter into a hand drill to use this.
