This stuff is a favorite of the guys at Snake Mountain Boat Works, so as a first-time boat restorer it was an easy purchase for me. After spending so much time removing all the paint from the hull and then wanting confidence that it will be sealed, I am glad to have this Thixo Flex product as I begin priming and painting. A 13 was on my way when I ran down to buy it We bought 1 heavy duty caulk gun for about $17, so now we are getting a smooth return on the Thixo Flex. It still is not lightening fast, but that is actually a good thing, because this stuff is sticky and thick and you want to apply it in the correct quantity so that you do not have too much excess when you spread the corner. It's a great device, but i highly recommend you buy a quality gun, otherwise it will be difficult to use.
The instructions are inadequate - a low-geared caulking gun should be explicitly mentioned as REQUIRED - and not simply My gun broke in the middle of the fight After only 1/10th of the epoxy was used, the project was completed. The mixing tip is not available for hand mixing, so a lot of time and effort was wasted because I was unable to apply with a mixer. A rating of 3/5 is due to the fact that it should say a heavy-duty gun is You could also sell it with a different JB-type A plunger type epoxy dispenser is needed to allow it to function according to the instructions. At this price, it's more likely to function like a Swiss watch than anything else. The fact that you don't get enough epoxy is also pretty lame, since the epoxy is injected from within the plunger. With Tube/Gun problems aside, the wall got hard within 4 hours at 72 degrees, and rock hard after 48 hours, even though it had a lot of When cured, it is almost indistinguishable from fiberglass resin (despite the fact that technical data says it has a different tensile strength and modulus of flexibility). As if it were bondo, sanded with 40grit on the Once sanded to 2000grit, it is very smooth and polishes just like any other epoxy. The polish on the wood appears to be similar to walnut.
Following the Boat Works Today episode, I came to the conclusion to use a flexible epoxy to repair some spider cracks. I prepared the cracks with my Dremel tool and then cleared the work area before dispensing a small amount of epoxy to be discarded. I proceeded to fill the cracks with epoxy. As a result of the working environment I am forced to work in, I cover all repairs with Mylar Film. Protecting the epoxy while it cures is achieved by using this layer. When the area has been covered, I use a 3" seam roller to roll it out gently. In this way, total penetration can be ensured. After the epoxy has cured I wait for it to harden. Following the removal of the Mylar and sanding off the excess, I noticed small divots or air spaces in the epoxy. On the next application, I used more epoxy, but got the same results. I thought it was my fault, so I dispensed a larger amount of epoxy The mixture would always be too gummy. In the end, I gave up after trying 4 times and destroying the mixing nozzle. Gel coat will cover the repairs at the end of the day. The epoxy I use in my other brand does not react this way. I guess I'll have to deal with it.
Static mixers do the trick. There is only one warning in this case if your expecting this to be like a full tube of caulking, You will reach the half-way mark of the caulking gun when it runs out of caulking.
They shipped Thixo Wood epoxy with the product inside the canister It is difficult to get out of the canister. The tube probably only held 1/4 of what I needed, and a standard caulk gun could handle the rest. It may not be possible for me to apply an entire As stated in the tube, I had it in a climate controlled environment, however, it did not set up as quickly as it should have.
If you are not a weight lifter, you will need a good caulking gun to dispense the entire tube. You don't have to use the mixer that comes with it to make it mix. It mixes great, not much waste.
Rather than buy a heavy duty gun, I just used the standard one without the mixing tip and mixed everything with a stirring stick and applied it. A solid layer of plastic took about three hours to develop, but it is strong now! You've got some great content here. As of right now, I had no comparison to make, but it did not seem very flexible. When I return from my 2,500-mile road trip, I'll update my review.
The adhesive is used for sealing rivets and seams of an aluminum boat that is 19 feet long. As usual, the hardest parts were the preparation, wire brushing, and wiping of the sealed areas with lacquer thinner. The thrust was high A caulking gun from Home Depot that made application simple. The areas I have applied are semi-targeted, but have not yet been tested The adhesive seems to be excellent, as well as being flexible!.
