Questions & Answers

Is it safe to put this in the dishwasher?

I've had my pail for three years and, if there's room, I'll wash it in the dishwasher. However, because I usually require it immediately, I prefer to wash it by hand with hot water and a small amount of dish soap, then dry it with a clean cloth. It has some stains on the inside, which is to be expected over time, despite the fact that it is stainless steel. Before you wash the lid, remember to take out the charcoal filter!

What is the frequency of filter replacement? And, after a long period of use, has anyone noticed any rusting? What about food that'sticks' to the inside of your mouth?

Only once have I had to change the filter. When I forgot to wash the old one, which I washed once a month, it began to grow mold. I tried to clean the filter anyway, but the mold reappeared after a day or two, so I had to replace it. If I have the opportunity, I will dry the filter outside in the sun. After three years, I only have two of the four filters that came with mine. I haven't noticed any rusting on the inside or outside. I throw in a lot of scraps (egg shells, avocado skins, spoiled leftovers, peels, fruit pits, houseplant droppings, and so on) on a daily basis. Because my city has commercial composting, I dump the compost 1- Two times per week at a nearby Whole Foods. Despite the fact that I don't have a yard, I compost because I learned to do so from my mother (who was an excellent gardener). Food has stuck to the inside of my pail on occasion, but it comes off easily with a hot water and dish soap soak or a dishwasher run.

Are charcoal filters able to be washed?

Yes, but you'll want to change them sooner or later anyway. Adsorption of odor molecules in the micropore structure of activated carbon (charcoal) is how it works. The pores, on the other hand, will become saturated after a while. There isn't a way to go back in time. Wash the carbon to activate it (heat-based regeneration is required). Yes, you can wash them if you're concerned about visible gunk on them (water won't harm them), but you won't be able to extend the life of the filter's carbon capacity by doing so. I hope this information is useful.

Fruit flies and maggots are two types of flies
3/5

Even though I planned to dump in the yard waste, I wanted to help the landfills and environment, so I ordered this composting bin and was excited to get started. I inserted the charcoal pad (I'm not sure what it's called) according to the instructions. When I first started using it, I noticed that when I added more scraps, fruit flies would escape. I wasn't sure if that was normal, so my friend came over and told me it wasn't, but she didn't know why it was happening. She also pointed out that the lid wasn't as tight as it should be. I dumped the first compost in the yard waste, cleaned it out, and kept using it in the hopes that the fruit flies would not return. I returned home after spending two days in Canada at my best friend's wedding and was preparing dinner when I noticed MAGGOTS all over the side of the lid (which was completely closed, as I always ensure). My fiance came over and threw the entire bin in the trash because I was obviously shocked and freaked out. This was revolting, and I would never buy or recommend it to anyone else. I'd like my money back, but there's no way to do so, and I can't return it because I don't want to clean the maggots out of it.

It's unlikely that it's made of stainless steel
3/5

To begin, I'll state that these charcoal filters do little to reduce odor. It gets pretty stinky in there, and fruit flies laid eggs and hatched all over the filter thanks to the holes on top. Within a week, my bin had become overrun with maggots and flies. I've been composting for a long time and have never encountered this issue. I've come to the conclusion that keeping compost scraps in a sealed container in the fridge or freezer until ready to use outside is the least smelly/messy method. By the way, even if it does become filthy, cleaning it is a difficult task. After a week of compost moisture, the "stainless steel" had stained and rusted. Outside, I had to spray and scrub with a hose, but there was still permanent damage. If this is really what you want and you're using an industrial composting service, I recommend using liners with it.

Bucket with a pin hole
3/5

I recently discovered that this bucket had a hole in the bottom, and I was curious as to where the liquid on my counters came from. The bucket appears to be in good condition, but there is one flaw that is a deal breaker.

"Not as gross as the bowl, Mom," says the slender beauty
5/5

For years, I've been putting off purchasing a good compost bin. Glass bowls, about-to-be-thrown-away plastic containers, and a plate All of these items have previously served as storage for my kitchen scraps. After dealing with the dreaded fruit flies in August, we finally gave in and bought a real compost bin. When I pick it up, it's stunning and feels quite substantial. We've got a lot of work to do, but we've got a I think she'll have a hard time with this one because she's a beloved but obnoxious cat who likes to knock things off counters. It isn't overly heavy, but it is substantial enough to thwart her attempts. br>br>With this bin, there is no compost odor, and the fruit flies have decreased significantly. I have seen a few inside the bin, but we have probably 85% fewer fruit flies now and those can be taken care of by some apple cider vinegar/dish soap traps now This bin, too, makes no claim to being a compost bin. It has a beautiful, minimalist design that looks fantastic on my kitchen counter. The lid is securely fastened, and I doubt it would fall off even if it were knocked to the ground. My 11- The task of emptying the bin into our outdoor compost container was assigned to our year old daughter, who thought it was simple to handle and "not as gross as the bowl, Mom. " " And that's all there is to it. ".

Love it! It contains odors and is big enough to hold a lot of trash! This compost bin is made of stainless steel, and it's incredible! A washable foam filter on the lid miraculously keeps the odor at bay
5/5

I have a bad habit of buying "good intentions" (aka fresh produce) that goes bad before anyone thinks to eat it, which is what got us interested in composting in the first place - We were fed up with seeing all of our produce go to waste, so we set up a compost tumbler for our vegetable gardens (will this turn into a vicious cycle?). I was using a 3 pound coffee can, but it rusted before I could finish a new one, and it stank up the house in less than a day! I've had produce in this bin for several days and have no idea what it is! Because it works so well, I bought a second one for my mother!.
