Yes, walnut oil would be excellent. Thank you for your inquiry; we recommend any oil that would be used on a cutting board.
We haven't had any problems with ants or other insects using this compost container in our own home. The container or lid have no holes, which appear to be the primary entry point for most insects in other models.
Acacia wood is used to make this. Thank you for avoiding the use of vaneer and particle board.
The size of the bin is 12 inches. 75x7x6in. Most 2. The bin will hold 6 to 3 gallon compostable bags. A standard plastic grocery bag with handles will also work as a reference.

My reward for putting in the effort to set up composting is this easy-to-clean, BEAUTIFUL counter bin! br>br>The price is a splurge when, after all, you could just throw your compostables into a coffee can, right? br>br>Well, I tried the coffee can route for the first week I composted, and it quickly became messy and smelly; there are many other satisfactory and much less expensive solutions, but THIS is an elegant and efficient choice while you go about your business of saving the planet. br>br>I'm not sure what it says about me that it's my favorite purchase of 2020, but keep in mind that I don't go out much these days.
I was under the impression that these compost bins were only available in metal or stainless steel. So when I saw this lovely wood-wrapped style, I knew it was the one for us. The wood is sturdy, and it almost completely conceals the stainless steel bin. Beautiful and long-lasting! I would strongly suggest it.
Our new compost bin has exceeded our expectations in every way. Advantages: br>br>
- We like how this bin does not resemble a traditional "mini trash can. "
- It matches our decor perfectly.
- The opening is large, which is helpful when scraping out large containers.
- It's simple to pick up and move to the location where we require it- I'm sure the same could be said for most countertop bins.
- There haven't been any issues with odor. Every other day, we normally empty it.
- Fits standard 3 gallon compost linersbr>- Cleaning is a breeze. The fact that the bin is made of metal means that we can safely put it in the dishwasher. br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product.
- Pricey. Were we really in need of a fancy compost bin? No, I doubt it. Is it really necessary? It is up to you to decide what is most important to you. We have no regrets about the purchase, and we were aware that it would be a bit of a splurge when we made it.
- Because the lid was not sealed, the ants were able to get in at first, but we haven't had a problem since we dealt with the larger issue.
- This might be more horizontal space than you're willing to give up, depending on the size of your kitchen.
I've tried a lot of different kinds, but none of them have worked as well as this one. To begin, I am unable to conceal a composter in the cabinet beneath the sink due to space constraints. It is required to be placed on the counter. Composters that looked like ceramic trash cans and plastic pails with lids were among the composters I've owned. Surprisingly, none of the others had done as good a job as this one had! br>br>We eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as salad. We were emptying the small composters (to a larger compost bin outdoors) after every meal prep session on some days. The other bins quickly filled up, and the stench of garbage was overwhelming when I lifted the lid! Even with the help of a filtration system! br>br>For me, this is a game changer. To begin with, the wooden box conceals the inner stainless steel bin. Simply lift the lid to remove the stainless steel bin, empty it, and clean it. Because the lid did not fit as tightly as the others, I was initially concerned about how well it would keep odors at bay. I can honestly say that after a month of use, I have had no odor issues. The stainless steel bin also doesn't need to be emptied as frequently as the others because it's deep enough. It looks great on the counter and doesn't draw attention to itself like the trash can composter did.
However, there is a reason I gave it three stars rather than four or five. br>br>First, the good - large capacity, easy-to-open lid, attractive appearance, and simple to clean It never stinks - The stainless steel is responsible for the last two good points. In addition, the stainless steel has caused me to cut myself twice while cleaning it, the second time just today (pictured). Not deep cuts, but more along the lines of a paper cut; Nonetheless, ouch! Because the container's and lid's edges/corners are sharp, I've learned my lesson and will wash it with extreme caution.
This recycling bin is a big improvement over the one we had before. In our kitchen, it looks great - The wood frame is close enough in appearance to our wood cabinets to blend in nicely. Filling and emptying is a breeze thanks to the large top opening. br>Some positive and negative characteristics are as follows: 1) The wood has a nice appearance. We prefer ours because it is more uniform in color than the one shown in the listing. 2) The stainless bin hangs from the edges of the wood frame, which has no bottom. That's probably for the best, because a bottom would make cleaning the inside more difficult. br>3) The product has an elegant look to it, but a few minor flaws detract from it. The lid's handle is welded in place. Because there are no feet on the base, it sits directly on the counter. I'm sure there were some complaints, which was to be expected. The answer was to include four low-cost stick-on items. The frame is supported by plastic feet that keep it from sliding. In fact, you probably want the frame to slide easily across the counter so you don't have to lift it. I'm going to get some more durable plastic shoes. br>4) Although the cover appears to be airtight, it lacks a flexible seal. br>5) You must decide for yourself whether the item is worth the price.
Overall, it's attractive, and I like how it's rectangular and can be leaned against a wall. The lid is well-fitting and keeps fruit flies away from the food waste. The wood box has no bottom, which I was surprised to discover. But it's not a problem; in fact, it's something I enjoy. I just wish there was something to keep the wood off the counter top so it wouldn't get wet. br>br>The item has a nice wood finish, but one edge has a smooth rounded piece of wood cut away. Look at the image. It was disappointing, especially considering the item's cost.
