Yes, the item can be placed on your work surface. Because it is made of lightweight metal, it will become top-heavy and unstable if it is not supported by a counterweight, such as a wall. I'm not sure if command strips will work, but command hooks should be able to fit through the hanger holes at the very least. Use command velcro/hook and loop strips between the desk and the bottom shelf if you need more support.
I purchased two of these to sell in my store. Each opening has a 12-inch width. Each opening is 1/4" thick, with a 1-inch thickness. Each opening is about 6" deep and 1/4" wide. 1/2". I hope this information is useful.

Surprisingly strong and substantial. br>br>Didn't give it a star because of: 1) One of the compartments is counted as the base, which in my case is unusable due to its narrowness. This, in my opinion, is deceptive. 2) I don't like the black labels; not everyone wants to spend an extra ten dollars on a white marker to write a few words and then discard it. New Update: br>br> I had to reduce the star rating to one. Because the slots aren't deep enough, my standard 8 has deteriorated over the last few months. Because they're hung over, 5x10 printouts are curled up. And I use these all the time as my orders come in, so the papers in my photo were only printed a week or two ago. They cut corners on this, which is disappointing. Is it really that difficult to make these just 2 inches deeper so that your standard copy paper does not become distorted and curled?.

We only required a simple file holder for use in our shop to store safety forms. Because the plastic mesh tends to collect dirt, we wanted the wire mesh. and down below - When spiders begin to build a nest, it becomes more difficult to see them! The only minor challenge was installing these. You must prepare ahead of time. To hang this, drill a hole and then secure it with screws. The issue arises from the location of the hanging hole. Because of the angle created by the horizontal file, it's difficult to get a screwdriver in. You could try using a very small screwdriver, but that would be difficult as well. This isn't a deal breaker, but it's something to consider. We won't be buying it again because we don't have a need for it.
I needed the ability to keep my cool. Organize and keep several types of paper files within easy reach until the job is finished. So far, the unit appears to be stable (it does not easily tip when pushed). Although I have not yet filled each section to capacity, the unit appears to remain stationary on the few sections that are full. not to sway or tip over The metal's overall quality is suitable for its intended purpose. Light enough to not be cumbersome, but thick enough to resist bending under the strain of heavy loads. As a free-lance writer, I'm currently working on a project. The only thing I don't like about them is how each section comes to a halt at a certain point, and you can't have too many papers in each section.
I realize I could have zoomed in on the photo, but it's not a six. If there are only 5 file compartments, use a tier file organizer. The small shelf at the bottom isn't included. br>br>As a 5-star hotel, I'd give it five stars as a tier file organizer.
These shelves are both visually appealing and well-built. My version is hung on the back of a door. The only problem I had was screwing the door shut. It is not the fault of the door. br>br>In each section, I have two folders. Terrific! Buyers should be aware that the folders are inserted sideways, binding side up, rather than vertically.
It's well-designed and constructed, and it gives you easy access to file folders and labels. I strapped mine to the top of a TV tray that I've set up next to a table where I'm doing my taxes, and it's working out great.
