Right now, they're packed away about 2 inches deep at the base.
Over the gutter's top edge, the large flat side clips. Lighting wires are clipped into the top or bottom hooks. Alternatively, slide the large flat side of the shingle under it. Connect lighting to the clips with the large clip/hook that goes over the shingle to the side. I hope this has been of assistance.
I've had these for a long time and mostly use them on window shutters. When it comes to gutters, I always secure them to the shingles at the bottom. Commercial Christmas Hardware 0701050102 all application clip is the best I've found for seamless gutters.
No, it's more like a clip that slides over the gutter.

(Yay!) Yet another structure to illuminate! ) Anyway, my husband was concerned about how he'd keep the lights on the roof because of the 20 gauge steel. These clever clips held every strand of icicle lights in place even in the face of strong winds, heavy rain, and snow.
Great icicle light clip that is simple to use, holds well on shingles, and snaps easily to larger new style gutters with far less clip visible than other styles.
These clips were ideal for securing shingles to the roof. They provide enough traction beneath the shingle to prevent them from being easily yanked out by the weight of the object they're holding. Because they're flat, they don't work well as gutter hangers. Unless the side you'll be hanging from has a flat gutter with no lip.
Except for this one, I've tried a lot of clips and disliked them all. They are unfortunately more difficult to come by, despite the fact that they are the best I've ever used!.
Installing and using this product is a breeze. I'm going to buy some more next year.
These are the best clips for mounting lights on rain gutters or along the roof line that I've found.
They fit snuggly under the roof shingles, and the lights did not come down in the wind this year, thanks to their long length.
They were not only used on gutters, but also to connect lights in between siding areas.
