The fabric is nice, but the colors aren't as "deep" as they could be

For my 8-year-old son, I bought this pillow cover. The fabric is nice, but the colors aren't as "deep" as they appear in the photos. It appears to have deteriorated in appearance. Because I adore the vintage look, I was hoping it would turn out exactly like the photo. It's also enhanced by the dark color.
