It works great in a 10x20 room with no insulation (from a 1934 house). It doesn't heat up the room, but it does help to warm it up. For this winter, I've already purchased a new one!
I have an 8x20ft room in the garage that has no trouble reaching 70°F in about 10 minutes and staying there until I turn it off. Other reviews of this heater for rooms up to 200 square feet have been positive.
There is no way to turn off the safety feature. Because the heater is ceramic, it does not have a glowing coil or flame to burn the floor or rug if it tips over. Furthermore, if you have the thermostat set to turn off once the desired room temperature is reached, it will do so. Two of these are in my possession. They're fantastic!

I'm used to a few failures as a home technology professional who buys a lot of electronics for myself and my clients. Most vendors will replace or repair a defective product in a timely manner. So it struck me as odd when THIS vendor refused to accept a return after the unit short-circuited and began smoking DURING THE FIRST USE. It's a good thing my house didn't catch fire! Anyway, once we'd cleared the air, I began the return request. Because it was a few days past their initial return period, they gave me a VERY SHORT 'NO. ' The issue is that this is a HEATER, not a COOLER. When you get something, you don't just rip it open and use it right away. You'll have to wait until it's cold outside. It had been a few weeks since we'd last seen each other. In any case, following stores123's rejection, I immediately requested an A to Z refund from Amazon. It was also turned down by Amazon. EVEN THOUGH IT POPPED, SPARKED OUT, AND CAME DOWN IN A PLUME OF SMOKE ON THE FIRST USE OUT OF THE BOX. I'm going to talk to Lasko about it now, as they seem to have a longer warranty period. In most cases, the vendor will arrange for a manufacturer's warranty. So, a big thank you to stores123 and Amazon for demonstrating your true colors as people who only care about getting their orders in. For all of the money you make, you should have return policies that are at least as good as, if not better than, those of all the local stores you are responsible for closing. SHAMEFUL.
BUYING THIS HEATER IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. IT IS PERILOUSbr>1. When you touch it, it becomes extremely hot. as in - You'd get a BURNING from it.
2. When it falls over, it does not turn off. (I knocked it over by accident a few months ago and was astounded that it continued to run until I picked it up! )
3. The BLOWER STOPPED blowing after less than a year of ownership.
4. The plastic covering the front of the blower was starting to MELT, and I could smell it, so I realized there was a problem with it.
5. When I called Lasko to inquire about the warranty (which is stated to be for three years), they refused to honor it. WARRANTY: br>br> br>It appears that the blower's failure was covered by the manufacturer's warranty. (They also claim that they would have gone ahead and started the replacement process. ) ) However, once it began to melt due to the heat, it was no longer covered by the warranty. This is in the department of "claims. " You'll have to return it and wait two weeks for a refund. The investigation took three weeks. After that, they'll decide if they'll be held accountable. br>br>While on the phone, a LASKO customer service representative attempted to assign blame by inquiring about how and how often I cleaned it. I told her I vacuumed it weekly and wiped it down with a baby wipe, and she said the Owners Manual required weekly cleaning and that using a baby wipe violated the instruction to use a "dry cloth. " "I read her the relevant section of the Owners Manual, and there was no mention of a dry cloth, only a "soft cloth" that was free of alcohol or solvent. She insisted that they look into any damage I might have caused to the unit (WITH A BABY WIPE? br>br>Amazon customer service was quick to respond and assist me. There are plenty of heaters out there that won't burn down your house and will be covered under warranty. br>br>Lasko has done nothing but waste my time. br>br> Purchase one of these.
It is a fire hazard. While I was out of the room, the plug melted and started a small fire, despite the fact that the unit was not turned on. It heats up quickly, but the risk of fire that this product poses is unacceptable.
I came home to a room filled with smoke after leaving it plugged in and running on 72 oscillation. The damned thing was still oscillating and working perfectly. I yanked the plug out of the wall where the heater had started to flame up by pulling it hard on the heater. I'm so glad we arrived home safely; otherwise, it could have turned out to be a disaster. This was purchased to keep the room of my blue and gold macaws warmer than the rest of my home. Because of the smoke, I almost lost my bird. If we hadn't arrived home when we did, our entire house could have burned down, including the bird and our three dogs. I will never use another space heater again. THIS IS NOT A GOOD ITEM TO BUY.
For the first few weeks, this heater worked perfectly, but then we began to notice a problem. The junction to the electrical outlet became extremely hot, to the point where smoke lines appeared on the outlet's face. We moved it twice because we thought it might be the outlet. The plug on the heater became dangerously hot each time, and the same thing happened. We discovered that it had melted a portion of the plug cord on the heater when we unplugged it (for the last time). I do not recommend this product and would advise potential buyers to research its safety record carefully. Other appliances plugged into the same home electrical outlets have not caused near-fire conditions, so I'm left with the impression that something is seriously wrong with the heater we bought.
I have to get up several times during the night to turn on the heat or stop running. I keep it at 73, but it never seems to stay that way. I've caught it running up to 77 degrees Fahrenheit without stopping unless I manually stop it, and then it claims to be at the temperature I set when it's actually much colder. I've had to turn it up and wait for it to turn back on, only for it to suddenly realize that it's 70 degrees in here, not 73, and that it needs to turn on, causing the room to overheat. Please do not purchase! This is extremely dangerous; the only reason I know it's acting up like this is because our nursery camera measures temperature.
I'd like to write a review, but I'm at a loss for words. It worked perfectly until my house was almost completely destroyed by fire. When the unit was turned on but not plugged in, the plug smoldered. I was so disturbed by this that I turned to look at the box. the cautionary notes This product was discovered to be unrated by Underwriters Laboratories or any other fire-safety rating organization. Because I took it for granted in the United States, I never thought to check. This item should not be sold in the United States, in my opinion. I'm grateful I didn't have a house fire; all I had was a charred carpet.
