There are three speeds on this fan, so depending on what you need, this could be perfect for you. It might be a good idea to raise the temperature on extra hot days. As well, you can tilt the fan so that the air circulates above you instead of directly hitting you.
While on low, there are no noticeable sounds, but on high, there is a slight wind noise which is not irritating at all.
An older Vornado 630 that says it was made in China is in my possession. With soft ear plugs, I can barely hear the fan, but I can block out other sounds in my home, which I like much more than white noise. I also use the low-setting to make low-frequency air noise, known as pink noise. In order to block the noise from the TV in the next room while my wife is watching TV, I turn up the fan in our room to medium speed, which is somewhat louder but still ok with ear plugs.

The fan I purchased is meant to circulate the air in a room, but in my humble opinion it doesn't do any better than standard fans. Although I did not have any idea if this "air circulation" spiel was true, I set it up in my small bedroom and positioned it as directed, determined beyond reason to prove to my wife that I hadn't been duped out of $70. In the end, I found that I had no luck after giving it a day's worth of time. I bought a $15 dollar fan from the convenience store that did more than this thing does at circulating the air in my small room. You could save yourself $70 by spending your money somewhere else. Update 9/2/19 Piece of junk fan no longer functioning.
The VORNADO FAN I once owned in the past is still in my memory. Excellent is the best way to describe it. Our products are made right here in America. It wasn't stated anywhere on the description that it is made in China, otherwise I would not have bought it. I looked up Vornado on the internet and discovered that they sold their Company to China in August of The recall of Vornado electrical products has so far affected 79% of its product line. I feel that Amazon is losing credibility among me because of its recent activities.

The second problem is that it is poorly constructed. There was a lot of falling off of the front face. The two I have on hand are of much higher quality and were made many years ago.
