The instructions were not needed for assembly, so I probably threw them away before starting. To secure the base to the top, there are four bolts with lock washers and flat washers. As soon as you have the wooden pieces with the large hole in place, you should position the hole in the bottom of the pedestal, and towards the outside. The hole acts as a catch for the undertray. Leaves are supported by this leaf piece. Once you have bolted the pedestal base to the top, the top can be installed. In the end, it was a little uncomfortable on the legs. That was the case for one. The table I had bookmarked on another site had been on my wish list for a while now, so I settled on this one and got a better deal with the color I wanted (Cherry/Black). In my tiny kitchen, I was concerned that I would be able to cram both ends of it down at once. The only end I have down is actually not down. Actually, if I had both ends up I could probably get away with it. The shelf fits perfectly in my basement, has plenty of room for my many needs, is sturdy, feels solid and does not wobble on uneven flooring at all, and was much easier to assemble than I expected (did alright with the wrench that was included).
