We discovered that we needed to lay the table flat on the floor, legs up, and lock the legs in place with either a strong foot or a hammer. We would not have purchased it if we had realized this.
Turn the table over so that the top is on the ground. There are two angle braces on each leg. One is whole, while the other is divided. Because the split brace is so tight, strike it in the middle with your palm or something hard. If you do this on all four legs, they will fold in and lock into place using the built-in clamps. The legs are, in fact, made of steel. I'm not sure what kind of plastic the top is made of, but it's tough and long-lasting. This table has made me very happy.

This is a sturdy table, but it is quite heavy. My wife was looking for something she could move around in, but this isn't it! The quality of the construction is excellent, and it should last a lifetime - It's also large enough to accommodate a truck. I was looking for a "Portable" table, not this monstrosity. I would have bought a regular table instead if I wanted a big, solid piece of furniture.
