That isn't the case. It's a fabric that has a metal frame instead of a wooden one. It has a very distinct look. It's also lightweight, simple to unfold, and, best of all, there are no squeaks when you get in or out of bed, unless your mattress allows it. We just got a new all-foam mattress, and it's quiet as a whistle!
We didn't get a chance to try them because they were sold out when we ordered. Sorry!
Yes, it has a cover, just like any other box spring, and I slept on it with a foam mattress.

For a king split box spring, the shipping box was quite small. Two box spring frames equaling a king size are included in the box, and the best part is that each frame is folded in half but already assembled! All you have to do is unzip the fabric frame cover and unfold the frame (which is extremely simple). These would be ideal for getting into a bedroom through narrow corridors or tight turns. Because of how easily they fold in half, they'd be ideal for frequent movers. The framework is sturdy and long-lasting. Now is the time to buy instead of looking. You will not be disappointed.
Great support and incredibly simple to put together. Simply remove them from the box, unfold and zip the cover, and place them on our king-size bed frame (there were two of them). Because I'm a big guy, my wife and I weigh in at over 500 pounds. It's not an issue. It was extremely quiet. I was hesitant to buy a metal frame at first. I would recommend replacing your old box springs with a mainstays half fold metal box spring if you are having problems with sleep quality, as my husband and I were, and have tried many things including purchasing two king mattresses three years apart. It had a significant impact on us! Our three-year-old mattress is now more comfortable. Mainstays metal box springs will be used to replace all other box springs.
