Questions & Answers

Is it magnetic in any way?

It is magnetic even though it does not have a magnet on it. I put a small one on it and it works as a fridge magnet.

Is this OXO can opener with piercing end still having problems with the piercing end not working?

The one I bought in MAY 2015 is still a shoddy design. br>As one of the top reviews pointed out, the piercing end still has a straight tab rather than the L-shaped tab. hook with a shape br>At first, it grabs the can's "lip" and punctures the lid, but it slips off before the puncture is completed. br>When the triangle is finished, it should look like this: If you understand what I'm saying, the shaped hole does not extend close enough to the can's edge. It works as a bottle opener.br> I'm a big fan of OXO products, but this one is disappointingly "average" in terms of functionality when compared to others.

Is it possible to use ten cans in this recipe?

This opener is extremely durable, and it should be able to open a ten-can load with ease.

Is it possible to open/punch large cans of pineapple juice?

Yes, it works on all cans; however, edmund also makes king-size can punch openers, and oxo makes well-made products.

The issues appear to have been resolved
5/5

I bought one of these a few years ago and was extremely dissatisfied with it. I couldn't find the return window, so I tried tweaking it every now and then, but it never worked properly. br>br>On a whim, I decided to order another to see if the problems had been resolved. br>br>The good news is that they had! The punch's point is noticeably sharper, and the protrusion that is supposed to catch and hold on the rim has grown in size and strength. br>br>In addition, the overall finish is superior. This is a stamped steel item, and the edges were rough and unfinished on the previous one. The edges of the new one are nice and smooth. br>br>At this point, I'm overjoyed.

Junk
3/5

A can opener is the most basic of tools. For over a century, the device has been in use. This isn't a brain surgery or a rocket science project. It's just a matter of following a tried-and-true formula. Unfortunately, this device is not functional. All I want to do is make soup from some large cans of chicken broth. The opener does not have a pointed point. It has a rounded shape. When you apply pressure to the handle and the tab that holds the bottom of the can's rim, the soft, cheap pot metal flexes. Despite firm pressure, the entire church key pops out of the can, leaving a small puncture that cannot be expanded. The hole in the can does not extend all the way to the edge. I'm both perplexed and enraged.

Engineered in a shoddy manner
3/5

The can/bottle opener looks appealing, and the material appears to be of good quality. It's just a blunder on this one. Developed. I tried it on three different sizes of cans. The distance between the grasping hook and the "poking" point is incorrect. It sags and won't reach out to make a gap. Overall, I feel like I wasted my money. It's possible that the end with the bottle opener will work. That end has never been used by me. I'm going to keep my rusted old cheapy. It's extremely infuriating coming from a company with such a good reputation.

Design flaws

Before the puncture can be completed, the gripper comes loose from the can's rim. Take a look at the photo of several tries. I can't believe the church keys my grandfather made 60 years ago still work better than this one.

The opener is excellent, but the punch is a disaster
3/5

I've had one of these in my kitchen for a few years and enjoy it so much that I recently bought another for the bar. Because the tab on the can punch end isn't angled properly, the punch doesn't grip the rims of cans to punch them open, the one I received was defective. After reading the reviews, it appears that everyone who uses this to open bottles is satisfied, but everyone who uses it to punch cans claims it is ineffective. So far, I agree, at least in terms of the ones that are currently being produced. Punching cans is the most common application for me. For opening bottles, I use a bar blade. So if it can't punch cans (a very basic task that even dollar store punches can handle), I'm not interested. br>br>I returned the item, and Amazon is sending me a replacement. If the new one works, I'll chalk it up to a one-time occurrence and revise my review. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> I contacted OXO, but have yet to hear back, and the new one I received has the same defect, indicating that there is clearly a problem with the recent production line.

This product has disappointed me greatly; I purchased it specifically to use as a can tapper, but it has failed miserably
3/5

I can only get a small hole punched in the top of the can before it falls off the can's edge. In terms of the bottle opener, it works flawlessly. This product disappointed me greatly, and I would not recommend it to anyone who wants to tap or punch holes in the top of a can. For the price, I had hoped for a lot more.

FAIL
3/5

OXO has a lot of good stuff. One of them isn't this one. I like how it looks and feels in my hand, but as a can piercer, it's a complete failure. Before you can get a good hole in the top of the can, it slips off the edge. To even make a small hole, you have to slam it against the can. It would work well if the bottom hook that grips the can edge actually stayed put, but it doesn't. I can't believe I paid good money for it (it isn't cheap for what it is!). ) for something that doesn't work well. (br>br>UPDATE: UPDATED: UPDATED: UPDATED: UPDATED: UP I'm downgrading from a one-star to a two-star rating. 3-star rating star. OXO got in touch and offered to replace the can opener. The new one works better, but I still think the bottom edge, which is supposed to anchor under the lid's lip and act as a fulcrum, is too thick. It will still fall off from time to time.

The tab that attaches to the can's rim
3/5

Because the tab that hooks onto the can's rim is straight, it can't grip it. As a result, you won't be able to puncture the can. I experimented with a number of different cans. None of the suggestions were successful. It went in the trash.
