Selected User Reviews For HIC Harold Import Oven Thermometer, Large 2.5-Inch Easy-Read Face, Stainless Steel
The thermometer appears to function properly, but I chose this particular thermometer because the description stated that it could be washed. That was particularly important to me as I was replacing my old thermometer, which had stopped working after a thorough hand wash. Unfortunately, the cleaning instructions on the package stated that it should only be cleaned with a damp cloth, despite the fact that the other part of the description stated that it should be hand washed in warm soapy water!.
Two weeks ago, I took it out of the box and placed it in a drawer. I just took it out of the box to use it for the first time, and the mercury has already been separated! I tried boiling water in the pot with it in it, but it didn't reach 212 degrees. It's about 5 degrees cooler! Following the reviews, I was very disappointed.
A candy thermometer was exactly what I needed. This product is far superior to what you'll find in the supermarket. The glass is protected by a strong frame. What I didn't think about was how big it was. Because it's so long, I had to hold it while stirring the caramel for 18 minutes instead of clipping it to the pot's side. The bottom should not come into contact with the pan's bottom. So, if you're going to make candy, make a double batch so the pot is high enough to use the clip. Although the directions say to wipe it down with a cloth after use, candy makers must pour boiling water over it to remove the hardened candy.
This is ideal for keeping our red wine fridge at the proper temperature.
This thermometer is broken, and it hasn't worked since I got it. It displays a temperature of 100 degrees and does not move. It doesn't matter if you put it in cold water or hot water; the temperature will never drop below 100 degrees. This thermometer is not something I would recommend purchasing.
I bought this product in March of 2018 and have used it about a half-dozen times since then. The numbers on the inside of the thermometer have washed off during that time (the interior is not removable, but water and soap do get inside), making reading the scale impossible. I've ordered a new thermometer to replace it, but it's not this brand.
I like these works because they appear to be accurate.
It works perfectly, and I discovered that my refrigerator and freezer were both broken.
