What's the deal with all of them being made in China? Ugh, I'd like it to be made in the United States!
With the pestle, the weight is increased to 7 lbs.
Yes, that is correct. This is a large item. This item is substantial in weight and construction. Make sure to "season" the item first (this takes about an hour of continuous "seasoning," which I did while watching TV). There will be a lot of grit, but it will be worth it in the end. Don't forget to season the pestle as well. As described in the website video, the green silicone wrap (to grip the pestle) works to remove the garlic hulls. This is an excellent addition.
It doesn't have a lid, but it's still a fantastic mortar.

I wanted to try something different and learn how to do things the old fashioned way. I adore how it feels in my hands when I use it. It's incredibly strong and substantial. It goes much more smoothly than I anticipated. To season it, you'll have to go through a few steps. You must first rinse or soak the rice, then dry it before grinding it into a powder at least twice. It took me about 30 minutes to complete this task. If you don't grind it slowly and firmly, rice will fly all over the place. It took a lot of effort on my part. In retrospect, I may have used too much rice, but all I wanted to do was follow the directions. I felt like the rice was ready for the next step after mashing two rounds of it. I made a paste with garlic, cumin, salt, and pepper (which smelled amazing), dumped it out, rinsed it, and air dried it, and now it's ready to use! I thought it was cool that the company sent me an email with a year warranty and a $10 coupon after I followed their instructions and went to their website. Thank you very much!.
This is a colossal and hefty object! There was also anti-gun legislation. Slip-on pads that actually do their job. So far, I've used it twice for Thanksgiving dinner, mixing in a lot of fresh herbs. I don't care for the cleaning aspect, but I enjoy the rest of it. There's a lot of space in there! I tried to show the depth by putting a 1 cup measuring cup inside this beast. I hope this helps.
It's the ideal size for any large or small needs while not taking up too much counter space. It arrived in a tidy package with clear instructions on how to prepare it for cooking. Because of the type of material used, you'll need to rinse it several times before it's ready. To be honest, this doesn't detract too much from the product because once it's ready to use, you won't have to do it again. Peppercorns and greens have never been a problem for me to grind. It'll take care of whatever you need it to.
Since receiving it, my husband has used it every day and is very pleased with it. Before you use it, make sure it's well seasoned. They don't explain what the green tube is for in the booklet, so he had to look it up on their website. You put garlic cloves in it, roll it back and forth, and the husks of the garlic cloves vanish! Strong and just the right size.
This was purchased for Thai cuisine and guacamole. At least 12 of these should have reviews. The most positive feedback was given to this one. I'm glad I chose this. It's very heavy and sturdy, and it's a good size and looks nice on the counter. Easy to season (grind rice, rub into stone, drizzle with oil, bake for 20 minutes at 350°F, repeat). I've used it on guacamole and Thai chili pastes a few times now, and it's simple to use and clean up. This purchase has made me very happy.
It has a good weight and is of excellent quality. It does not retain odors from whatever it is used for. This is a product that I strongly recommend!.
It needs to be seasoned. The packaging is appealing, and the product arrived in perfect condition. The mortar and pestle set is extremely durable and has a beautiful natural granite appearance. To get the best results, season the product before using it.
This is a sturdy pestle and mortar set: It appears to be of good quality for the money; the granite is heavy and feels like it will last a long time; it grinds spices (I've been using it to grind pepper because my pepper grinder is broken) and mashes things up, as in guacamole. The instructions are a little unclear on what to do with some of the peripheral items included with the product, such as the coaster thing (which I assume sticks on the bottom of the mortar to avoid scratching your countertop, but the instructions don't say) and the green silicone sleeve, which I've slid over the pestle to make it less abrasive on my hands, but it doesn't fit perfectly (it's a little too long, it fits around the diameter tightl).
