Three different sizes of holes are on top, so you can choose the size with which you want to work, and they come with a protective cover. There is no discernible difference in how easy or difficult it is to use the shakers. The only reason I took off a star was that one of the lids of my first set was cracked since they were only packaged in a A new set has been sent to me and I should receive it in a short time. The inconvenience now is shipping.

This is a stainless steel shaker. You can use this for sprinkleing cinnamon sugar on toast. No need to use lumpy powdered sugar. No other initiatives have been pursued thus far.
